#GREENGRIDZ SCORES R1 HIGHEST STEP ON R LADDER FOR CIRCULARITY

By using the lightweight #GREENGRIDZ furniture construction panel, achieving the highest level of the R ladder for circularity becomes child's play. The patented GRID eliminates the need for materials. Simply not using material anymore is the most circular and scores R1 on the R ladder. The higher on the R ladder, the lower the use of raw materials.

R1. Refuse and Rethink

Get rid of products or materials that you don't actually need. Make a product redundant by renouncing its function, or supplying it with a radically different product. Intensify product use (e.g. by sharing products via platforms or multifunctional products).

R2. Reduce

Use raw materials more efficiently by reducing raw material consumption during production and use of products.

R3. Re-use

Reuse of discarded good products, in the same function by another user. Think for example of designs for a longer life span. There are various platforms that give used products a second life.

R4. Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture and Repurpose

Repair and maintenance of a broken product for use in its former function. Extend the life span of products. Refurbish and/or modernise old products. Make new products from old products. Use parts of discarded product in new product with same or different function.

R5. Recycling

Processing materials into raw materials of the same (high-quality) or lower (low-quality) quality than the original raw material. Think of the processing and reuse of raw materials and residual streams or waste, such as grass, waste wood and coffee grounds.

R6. Recover

Incineration of materials with energy recovery. In a circular economy, as few materials as possible end up in this step.

In short: Reduce, reuse, recycle

Reduce (R1 and R2) - At the top of the ladder is reducing consumption and production and making products smarter and more efficient.

Re-use (R3 and R4) - At the centre is extending the life of products and components.

Recycle (R5 and R6)- At the bottom is the recovery of materials that would otherwise go to landfill.
