The Royal Library has a beautiful building, but because of the various floors and building sections you could get lost. The solution? Well thought-out signposting.
The Royal Library has a beautiful building, but because of the various floors and building sections you could get lost. The solution? Well thought-out signposting. And because circularity is high on the KB's agenda, this unique concept was devised from waste. On 80,000 m2 of office space the KB, as the national library, makes the library collection of the Netherlands visible, usable and tenable. A conscious choice is made for sustainable alternatives that are made of waste and are 100% reusable at the end of the usage cycle.
A sustainable alternative was also consciously chosen for the signage. More than 250 signs were specially designed and produced for this special building from cellulose waste from drinks containers. This material is healthy, as it contains no toxins or formaldehyde. In addition, it is completely bio-based.
The high-profile design always shows the source material, so that everyone gets the story of these special products.
The signposting guides visitors and employees through the four building sections. Each section has been given its own colour, so that it is always clear where you are. In combination with an interactive map on the intranet, both designed in cooperation with BVLP, everyone can find their way around quickly. This saves a lot of time and frustration.
This project shows that circularity is not complicated. All the products needed in our buildings can be made from waste. If only you dare to look at it differently.
