TRIBOO, Studio Wae, and VanHier collaborated to develop Roots and Rugs—a spectacular, locally produced furniture concept made from waste streams and natural materials. This circular interior design concept combines a 3D-printed Roots bar table with a modular rug featuring a unique design created by Studio Wae. The rug’s pattern is echoed in the finish of the round #greengridz tabletop. The VanHier bio-laminate is custom-cut and inlaid to create a striking look that makes a bold statement about circularity. This attention-grabbing centerpiece, embodying the story of three circular pioneers, is the ideal table for business meetings, receptions, events, and parties.

Less material, fewer CO2 emissions, and less waste! These goals are the circular design principles behind every Roots and Rugs set, which is produced locally. The tables and rugs are made from raw materials that would otherwise have ended up as waste. The bio-laminate is made from natural fibers sourced from local agricultural waste streams. The 3D-printed structures feature a lightweight #greengridz tabletop. As a result, the carbon footprint is 60% lower than that of heavy solid wood tabletops, and you save many kilograms of material. And material you no longer use doesn’t need to be recycled. That’s how Roots helps reduce the waste problem.
At the end of its useful life, the Roots can be returned to TRIBOO. The base is ground down and transformed in both form and function. It is 3D-printed into a circular product that is in demand at that time. The #greengridz tabletops are converted into carbon for water and air filters through a pyrolysis process.
The Roots table is constructed from a solid 3D-printed structure made of 100% recycled material. The height is 1050 mm, and the width ranges from 550 to 660 mm. It weighs 15 kilograms. The frame can be printed using plastics or natural fibers and is available in various colors. The lightweight tabletops are made of #greengridz and are available in a round shape with a diameter of 900 mm or 1000 mm. The tabletops are available in thicknesses of 24, 30, and 40 mm. A wide variety of colors is available for the tabletop’s finish and inlay. The matching fabric can be fully customized, even as a complete floor covering.
