Kone consciously chooses circular to work sustainably at home and saves 2,160 kilos of material and 60% co2

A lot is said about sustainability, but KONE wanted to know who it really is. KONE's sustainability strategy was leading in this tender. Several providers told their story about the home office. They had to explain the amount of material used, the CO2 emissions in production, origin, content of toxic substances and reusability.

In 2021, lift and escalator manufacturer KONE decided to give its employees a healthy and sustainable home workplace. TRIBOO was invited by facilities manager Sam Groen to make a proposal. "Make it easy, sustainable and preferably affordable". That is what TRIBOO set to work with.

KONE WANTED TO KNOW WHO ARE REALLY SUSTAINABLE

A lot is said about sustainability, but KONE wanted to know who it really is.

KONE's sustainability strategy was the guiding principle in this tender. Several bidders told their story about the home office. They had to explain the amount of material used, the CO2 emissions in production, origin, content of toxic substances and reusability. Another important criterion was efficient logistics. Many people had to have a workstation delivered to their homes in a short space of time.

TRIBOO'S CIRCULAR HOME OFFICE WAS PROVEN TO BE THE BEST

On the basis of solid data and practical examples, TRIBOO's home office emerged as the most sustainable. By using the #greengridz desktop in combination with a frame produced in the Netherlands, the workplace scored the highest points by using the least material and having the lowest CO2 emissions. In the area of healthy and responsible materials, the CARB2 certification in combination with the Nordic Swan Eco label, one of the world's strictest and most recognised environmental certifications from Scandinavia, scored highly. TRIBOO also came out on top for delivery reliability and efficient logistics. The home office of TRIBOO is entirely produced in the Netherlands and there is no dependence on transports from faraway countries.

SUSTAINABLE IS USUALLY LINKED TO A HIGHER PRICE, BUT THAT WAS NOT SO BAD

Sam Groen: "Of course, the price is always a factor. And sustainability is usually linked to a higher price. We were afraid that this would not work out. Fortunately, that turned out not to be the case with our TRIBOO home workplaces. KONE deliberately opted for a much more sustainable solution, and that comes at a price. TRIBOO is a 100% Dutch company and made a competitive offer. We also like short lines of communication. You know who you're doing business with. That's very pleasant."

AN ENORMOUS LOGISTICAL OPERATION

Spread throughout the Netherlands, 120 workstations had to be brought to the employees. Each address has its own possibilities and impossibilities in terms of accessibility for bringing furniture in and assembling it. Employees must be at home and the entire operation had to be completed within an ambitious schedule. Communication and planning with all those involved also required a structured approach to make this logistical operation a success for everyone.

120 HAPPY EMPLOYEES WORK SAFELY AND HEALTHILY AT HOME

Meanwhile, more than 120 KONE employees have been made happy with a circular workplace at home. TRIBOO took care of all the worries and organised the whole logistics operation professionally. Perfect down to the last detail, from research and inventory of wishes and requirements to planning, producing, coordinating, delivering and assembling the workstations at home. Now everyone can work safely and healthily both at home and in the office.

"I had tried working at home at the kitchen table, but it was no good with the children. It wasn't ergonomic either. A height-adjustable desk and a good chair are very nice. The ordering and delivery went smoothly and quickly. According to the agreement, it was neatly carried to the attic and put together. What was funny, my child was standing there. The mechanic wisely didn't explain how the switch works to let the desk rise and fall. He could see that my daughter would then play with it all day. That's what I call thinking with me.

"What I especially like is that my employer has thought of us in this way. We spend a lot of time at home and a good, healthy workplace is important for me to be able to do my work well. This really makes a huge difference. I also really like the fact that the materials are circular and sustainable.
