For VITAM, TRIBOO's healthy circular workplace fits perfectly with its mission to entice people to choose a responsible and vital lifestyle.
On December 20, VITAM moved its service office to a new location on the Burgemeester Burgerslaan in Den Bosch. After 16 years, the 'Schijndel jacket' became too cramped for the Brabant-based caterer and the search for a new location followed. The intended growth of the organization was the starting point, with the possibility of fully adapting the premises to the agile way of working it embraces. Work has now started on the renovation, which - fully in line with VITAM's vision of 'vital people in a vital world' - is grafted onto the latest insights into vital workplaces and the use of circular materials and products.
Earlier this year, VITAM announced that it was looking for a new location for its service office. In any case, the caterer - which now has more than 250 restaurants throughout the Netherlands - wanted to stay true to its Brabant roots and found a more than suitable home base in a building along the A2 motorway in Den Bosch. Here, VITAM - together with its sister companies within the JHB Group - will occupy the fourth and fifth floors.
For the interior architects and designers-Joost van Pelt (JOOOST) and Pieter Verbaak (PJOTR Design)-the task was to symbolize the VITAM story through the design: Vitality and circularity at the core and supporting the 12 ingredients of agile organization according to Diana Russo. As a player in the hospitality industry, the spaces breathe an open and pleasant atmosphere, where employees work (together) in a vital way and - like their visitors - quickly feel at home.
With all the existing knowledge on C2C, circular economy, BREEAM and other popular sustainable terms, Joost and Pieter started researching the market. During many interesting meetings with suppliers in circular furniture, sustainable materials and recycled products, they gained even more knowledge to then translate this into a healthy and circular workplace for VITAM's new headquarters.
Before designing the workstations together with TRIBOO, we wanted to know what was healthy and circular about the workstations they produce. After a good introductory talk with Marc van der Heijden and Martijn Vinke, we were positively surprised. We saw samples of healthy innovative materials extracted from waste residues of natural cellulose fibers and heard what the important values of the company were.
At the factory where they make the #GREENGRIDZ desktops, they can answer the most important question when it comes to circularity. "What is most circular when you think about material and construction." Most circular is simply not using material anymore. It's not going to get any more circular than that.
A 19mm #GREENGRIDZ desktop uses 60% less material than a solid sheet of particleboard or plywood. With a 100mm top, only 10% solids remain in the lightweight construction compared to traditional solid tops. With #GREENGRIDZ, depending on the thickness of the panel, between 60 and 90% less raw material is extracted from Mother Earth. The weight per m2 of a 38 mm furniture panel is about 18 kilos of plywood, 25 kilos of particleboard and 8 kilos of #GREENGRIDZ.
Since a load of #GREENGRIDZ panels weighs less, the truck's engine has to work less. As a result, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are significantly lower compared to a load of traditional solid furniture panels. #GREENGRIDZ is made in the Netherlands. This way, we always produce close to our customers, minimising CO2 emissions and environmental impact compared to panels shipped from far away.
The panel makes an important contribution to the healthy working and living environment. Essential for the health of employees is that no toxic substances are present in the furniture. It is also essential for sustainable reuse because otherwise there is no future for the raw material other than incineration. #GREENGRIDZ is CARB2 certified and biodegradable. This meets the highest requirements, when it comes to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as FORMALDEHYDE. CARB 2 certification is proof that you are dealing with a product that meets the highest standards and is safe.
Sneek is home to the world's first circular insulation factory EverUse. After 20 years of material development, the factory was officially opened two years ago by HRH Willem Alexander. Here you can really see the circular economy at work.
What is important is that acoustic panels between desks work excellently. It is important when many people are working in an open space that the sound is maximally absorbed. This outstanding performance is confirmed by official test reports. Thanks to its woolly structure, sound is very well absorbed and isolated at both high and low frequencies. There is currently no better material in terms of performance than 100% absorption at 4 cm thickness.
EverUse is the first insulation factory in the world to be Cradle to Cradle certified. The product is produced cleanly and socially and contains no inappropriate toxic substances. EverUse's circular insulation mats are made in Friesland from paper waste. With the Cradle to Cradle certificate, EverUse is a complete and circular alternative to existing insulation materials.
EverUse technology preserves existing insulation solutions in terms of health, reusability, reduction and storage of CO2. EverUse's acoustic panels are made from paper and cardboard waste. Using EverUse in the interior stores biomass. For every kilogram of EverUse, 3.7 kilograms of Co2 is stored. If we correct this for production and logistics in the chain, EverUse has a negative CO2 footprint of -1 kg CO2/kg products thus contribute substantially to CO2 reduction and storage.
After careful consideration and proven circularity, our choice for the healthy circular workplaces fell on TRIBOO. For our client VITAM, this healthy and circular workplace fitted perfectly with its mission to entice people to choose a responsible and vital lifestyle.
By choosing to turn worthless waste into valuable healthy and circular workplaces in a project of this magnitude, VITAM, JOOOST and PJOTR DESIGN are demonstrably contributing to the realization of the waste-free society and genesis of the circular economy.
