During Material District Rotterdam, TRIBOO launched an innovative, circular furniture panel: #GREENGRIDZ. From the furniture panel, made from the waste of natural cellulose fibers, you make healthy and responsible furniture. No toxic substances, emission-free and fitting for people who want to reduce CO2 emissions. The panel is fully reusable to make other circular products. The raw materials for desks form the raw materials for cabinets, form the raw materials for kitchens, over and over again. Our mission is clear and without compromise: To make every piece of furniture in the Netherlands healthy, responsible and circular.
For the past few decades we have made all the furniture in our offices from traditional sheet materials. Easy to work with and inexpensive. You see it in walls, pantries, benches, conference tables, desk tops and much more. The problem is that all these products are not circular. When we no longer want to use them they cost money and are one big waste problem. And even worse, that waste pile is extremely unhealthy for us. This has everything to do with the binder used in making traditional sheet materials; formaldehyde.

The use of formaldehyde is an example of a harmful mindset. A race for more and cheaper, where we have completely lost sight of reality. We make ourselves poorer and lose sight of important values like health and our globe. If you know this substance is bad for your health, you don't want this anymore, right?
#GREENGRIDZ is the replacement for unhealthy and irresponsible sheet materials. This innovative base material is made in the Netherlands from waste streams. The panel can be composed of different types of waste, and therefore raw materials. The source are cellulose fibers from old clothes, straw, cardboard, hemp and waste wood, among others. We let these raw materials bind under the influence of temperature and pressure to form strong panels. No binders, such as formaldehyde, are added.
We press the sheets into a rock-solid, lightweight furniture panel that is versatile in use. We turn it into desk tops, cabinets, kitchens, beds, pantries and much more. The panel is circular and 100% reusable. When the raw material is returned, the customer receives the raw material value of the material and the panel is pulped and then pressed back into new panel. For example, 50 desk tops can be transformed into a kitchen and vice versa.
#GREENGRIDZ fits into a healthy and responsible environment. It is CARB2-certified and requires far fewer raw materials. CO2 emissions during production are 60% lower than for traditional sheet materials. It is fully biodegradable and light which reduces fuel consumption (and CO2) during transportation.
#GREENGRIDZ is made in the Netherlands and we are proud of that. As a result, no huge cargo ships are needed to get the product to its destination and we retain craftsmanship and innovation for the Dutch manufacturing industry.
In practice, #GREENGRIDZ also offers better quality than, say, particleboard (see figure below).
