PHI FACTORY DESIGNS NEW OFFICE IN A HEALTHY AND CIRCULAR WAY WITH LESS MATERIAL, LESS CO2 AND PRODUCTS MADE FROM WASTE.

If you are busy measuring sustainability performance in other organisations on a daily basis, you should apply this to the maximum in your own office.

PHI Factory is a passionate and driven sustainable consultancy. With contagious enthusiasm they support organisations in translating sustainable and circular ambitions into practical projects and solutions. In 2016 Yvette Watson and Geerke Versteeg set up the company and now a few years later the organisation has outgrown its premises. They have moved into a new office in Amsterdam at the KIT Royal Tropical Institute, the epicentre of sustainable businesses in the Netherlands.

PHI Factory focuses on the realisation of circular objectives within the procurement profession, the formation of circular (facilities) coalitions and sustainable buildings. They also find it important to make the impact and effect of what they do measurable with the PHI Impact Calculator. They also pay a lot of attention to the social innovation needed for this transition. Through their serious game, PHI Accelerator, they can activate very large groups of people to contribute to the organisation's sustainability goals. In all their projects, they connect, share knowledge and dare to experiment. Their motto: #togetheraccelerate #bethechange and #sharethefun

It is only natural that when you are busy measuring the sustainability performance of other organisations on a daily basis, you also apply this to the design of your own office as much as possible. PHI Factory wanted healthy and circular interiors. Products that make the circular economy visible in the interior. TRIBOO became the sparring partner to get the most out of it and it did!

The circular 100% NL sit-stand workstations for 12 employees are composed of DUO and SOLO versions. By applying a lightweight #greengridz desktop, 18 kilos of material was saved per workstation. In total, 216 kilos less material is used than with traditional solid desktop. The material that is not used, does not need to be reused, it doesn't get any more circular than that. The CO2 footprint is 60% lower, the product is made in the Netherlands and is made from waste streams from the wood industry. In addition, it is a healthy product that is CARB2 certified.

The acoustic desk screens are filled with the circular insulation material EverUse. Tested as the best acoustic absorber, it brings calm to the office environment at Phi Factory, where it can sometimes be quite loud. EverUse has a negative CO2 footprint of -1 kg CO2/kg product. This means that every kilo of Everuse that is processed in the screen, removes 1 kilo of CO2 from the environment. Per desk screen, this means - 4 kg of CO2 and total - 16 kg of CO2. In addition, EverUse is a cradle to cradle product, contains no toxic substances, is made in Sneek and is completely reusable. In 15 minutes, a circular Everuse mat is made into another circular Everuse mat. When you hand in the healthy material, you will receive the raw material value back. At the moment, that is 100 euros per ton.

For a cosy sitting area, we chose a table by #greengridz that is not finished. This way, you can really see the secret of its light weight. For the chairs, we chose a mix. Modular stools made from agricultural waste that are connected by friction joints without glue, nails or screws. 100% reusable chairs made from the waste of flower pots, garden furniture, packaging, chip bags and margarine tubs. 3D printed chair made from old refrigerators. How COOL is that!

"What we need now in the transition to a circular economy is to pass on the stories. Good successes, such as the establishment of Triboo, but also the fuckups in the search for circular solutions. We have to show what is already possible, what we still need and, above all, how cool and beautiful the circular economy is. For years, we have made the route to a more sustainable society small: 'A better environment starts with yourself'. By making it small, you may make it practical, but also not very heroic. It is time to harness the power of the collective and make the collective impact transparent. What if we all took a small step? Then, all of a sudden, we would have made a significant change. That is what the transition is all about. Every day our consultants are working to put circular economy into practice and we are proud that our office now also breathes circularity."
