NEW AT TRIBOO - WALL HANGINGS MADE FROM PINEAPPLE WASTE

Wall hangings are hip and happening again. At TRIBOO they are circular and made of waste.

Wall hangings are hip and happening again. When furnishing the office in a circular way, these high-profile pieces of jewellery may not be missing. TRIBOO brings a circular collection of wall hangings to the market made from waste. The first collection of wall hangings is made of the fibres from the waste leaves of the pineapple plant.

PINEAPPLE CULTIVATION WASTE FORMS THE RAW MATERIAL FOR TAPESTRY TEXTILES

It looks like leather, but it is a fabric and is 100% organic. It is made of fibres from the waste leaves of the pineapple plant. These leaves are a by-product of the existing pineapple harvest, so the raw material requires no additional environmental resources to produce. After the pineapple harvest, the remaining suitable leaves of the plants are collected in bundles and the long fibres are extracted with semi-automatic machines. The fibres are washed and dried naturally by the sun or during the rainy season in drying ovens. The dry fibres undergo a purification process to remove any impurities, resulting in a fluffy material. This fluffy pineapple leaf fibre (PALF) is mixed with corn-based polylactic acid (PLA) and undergoes a mechanical process to create a pineapple felt from Pinatex.

WITH 1 SQUARE METRE OF WALL HANGING YOU TURN THE WORTHLESS WASTE FROM 16 PINEAPPLE PLANTS INTO A VALUABLE PRODUCT

Did you know that to make 1 square metre of tapestry you need the leaf litter of 16 pineapple plants, which equals about 480 leaves?

Collecting these leaves enables farmers to earn a second income, but also helps them manage the waste from the farmland, which would otherwise have been burnt or thrown away.

Subsequently, the remaining biomass produced in the fibre extraction process is used as fertiliser when replanting the crop - not only to save costs for the local cooperatives, but mainly to comply with the #zerowaste principles and the philosophy of the circular economy.

With the annual production of more than 13 million tonnes of pineapple leaf waste, we are tackling an innate waste problem by turning the pineapple leaf fibres into a great textile that has a low negative impact on the environment and a high social impact at the same time.

RUGS MADE OF WASTE IN ALL KINDS OF VARIATIONS

The wall hangings have a standard size of 1700x1200mm and are available in 12 different colours. The backside can be finished with wool, which also creates an acoustic effect. The tapestries can also be delivered in custom sizes and it is possible to cut out different motifs and logos so that the tapestry can be fully personalised.
