With 1 square meter of tapestry, you turn the worthless waste of 16 pineapple plants into a valuable circular product.
Many people have been working from home for some time now. Given developments with the corona virus, the home workplace will become permanent for many people.
Currently, many workstations are installed in the home consisting of a good office chair and a height-adjustable sit-stand desk. This allows us to work healthily and safely in the home as well. But to be able to really call the HOME workplace a HOME workplace, the furnishing of the space also plays an important role. The circular rugs on the wall or on the floor, atmospheric lamps, wall decorations and acoustic panels made from waste create a personal atmosphere that makes you feel good and allows you to perform optimally from home.
Did you know that to make 1 square meter of tapestry you need the leaf waste from 16 pineapple plants which equals about 480 leaves? Collecting these leaves allows farmers to earn a second income, but also helps them manage waste from the farmland, as they would otherwise have been burned or discarded. Then, the remaining biomass produced in the fiber extraction is used as fertilizer when replanting the crop - not only to save costs for the local cooperatives, but more importantly to comply with #zerowaste principles and the philosophy of the circular economy.
With the annual production of more than 13 million tons of pineapple leaf waste, we address an innate waste problem by turning pineapple leaf fibers into a great textile that has a low negative impact on the environment while having a high social impact.
Wall hangings are hip and happening again. When furnishing the office in a circular way, these high-profile pieces of jewellery may not be missing. TRIBOO brings a circular collection of wall hangings to the market made from waste. The first collection of wall hangings is made of the fibres from the waste leaves of the pineapple plant.
It looks like leather, however, it is a fabric and is 100% organic. It is made from fibers from the waste leaves of the pineapple plant. These leaves are a byproduct of the existing pineapple harvest, so the raw material does not require additional environmental resources to produce. After the pineapple harvest, the suitable leaves left behind from the plants are collected in bundles and the long fibers are extracted with semi-automatic machines. The fibers are washed and dried naturally by the sun or in drying ovens during the rainy season. The dry fibers undergo a purification process to remove any impurities, resulting in a fluffy material. This fluffy pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) is blended with corn-based polylactic acid (PLA) and undergoes a mechanical process to create a pineapple felt.
The wall hangings have a standard size of 1700x1150mm and are available in 12 different colors. The back can be finished with wool which also creates an acoustic effect. The tapestries can also be supplied in custom sizes and it is possible to cut out different motifs and logos so that the tapestry can be fully personalized.
