Every year we throw away 70 million euros worth of raw materials that we could have simply reused. Not really a good solution, when our raw materials are becoming increasingly scarce and we need to ensure that the CO2 emissions of our society are going to decrease significantly.
1,500 CDs, 34 refrigerators, 16 pounds of household waste and 20 pounds of cellulose waste were used to produce this paragon of circularity. All of them raw materials that ended up in the landfill. The plant pot, the sheep, is 3D printed, whereby the legs of the sheep, by means of friction, fix themselves in the pot. This makes the materials easily detachable again and 100% reusable in mono streams. The side tables are made from CDs and refrigerators. The lounge chairs are 3D printed. The upholstery is made of hemp filled with recycled foam as padding. No zippers, nails or glues were used, creating an inseparable connection. By means of friction and a clever wooden stick, the fabric clamps itself into the printed construction. Very easy to detach again to clean the upholstery or refill the seat, for example. When the fabric is recycled it is a mono material with no annoying additives. The lamps made from CDs are blown and are 250 times stronger than glass because they are extracted from waste residual streams of polycarbonate.
