Hoekschewaard municipality chooses unique circular design for executive wing

The management of the Municipality of Hoekschewaard is setting an example in the Netherlands by opting for a circular design.

The management of the Municipality of Hoekschewaard sets an example in the Netherlands by opting for a circular design. This fulfills the responsibility and example function in full.

The need to work together to create a sustainable Netherlands for future generations must be shaped at every level. The municipality is taking a big step in this by choosing furniture made from sustainable materials that can be 100% reused in its own operations.

Thus, together we create the waste-free society of the future and combat global warming by countering Co2 emissions in every area, large and small.

Sustainable materials with Co2 storage

Bamboo was chosen for the furniture. This crop is very effective in absorbing CO2. The plant grows quickly and if harvested regularly, it can retain up to 100 to 400 tons of CO2 per hectare. With this, we take Co2 out of the atmosphere and store it for a long time in this beautiful furniture.

In addition, bamboo grows incredibly fast. That means that all the raw materials used for this office have already grown back, long before the furniture is end-of-life. So the materials we use are not exhaustible, but keep replenishing themselves continuously.

Dismountable for takeback

When the congregation stops using its furniture, we continue using it. All the furniture is modular. That means they are assembled without glue. This prevents the materials from ending up in landfills. Instead, TRIBOO takes everything back and makes sure the products get a second life. A lamp becomes a chair again, a table a cabinet again and a desk a wall panel again.

Lamps made from old CDs and circular sit/stand workstation

Besides beautiful meeting tables and cabinets made of bamboo, we also realized a special version of the healthy, circular workplace for the municipality. Instead of a top made of #GREENGRIDZ, a top made of bamboo was chosen.

Above each conference table hangs a special lamp made of old CDs. The plastic of the CD is used as raw material for the robotic 3d printer that turns it into beautiful line. Thus, the most wonderful products can be made.

Unique identity as a starting point

The municipality of Hoekschewaard is a beautiful place with characteristic South Holland nature. The colors and images of this are reflected in the design of the office. Thus, the landscape is central in the rooms of the board and aldermen, so that they, as well as their guests, are inspired every day by the area they work so hard for.

The circular interior design comes entirely from Studio Biek. Who together with the Hoeksche Waard municipality implemented this ambition.
