The best sustainable innovations in or services in the work environment: that's what Smart WorkPlace and its partner CSU are looking for.

These novelties are rewarded with the CSU Smart Solution of the Year Award, which is presented during the WorkPlace Xperience Gold Party at the Van Nelle Factory.

The event focusing on topics such as healthy and happy work will be held on April 16 and 17, 2024. Innovations and concepts that contribute greatly to user vitality and productivity are newly discovered every year. For the CSU Smart Solution of the Year, SWP and CSU want to highlight these innovations.

Recognition for decisiveness

In 2023, the coveted award went to Marc van der Heijden of TRIBOO, for the innovation #GreenGridz, a healthy and circular furniture construction panel. "For us, this award recognizes our vision, perseverance and decisiveness to turn worthless waste into valuable circular office furniture. We are making a positive impact on our world with #GreenGridz by using 60-90% less material, emitting 60% less harmful greenhouse gases and producing no waste at the end of the life cycle. The sheets are shredded and upcycled through a pyrolysis process into activated carbon, which is used in water and air filters."

More attention

Winning the award has not hurt his organization, according to Van der Heijden: "We have received a lot of attention and acquired new customers." At the same time, he thinks the circularity challenge deserves more attention: "Every year in Europe we throw away 11 billion kilos of furniture, 90% of which is burned. If everyone furnishes their offices with less material, less CO2 and less waste, we will turn fast furniture that is thrown away into an infinite source of raw materials."
